This anime had been sitting on my "plan to watch" list since the announcement of its adaption. I'm glad that I picked to watch this show the other night because I definitely dig it and even completed in one sitting (mind you, I never ever binge watch any shows may it be anime, Asian drama or western TV series - story about my watching habit in a different post). This is the second anime I watched continuously, having Shingeki no Kyojin as the first.
The reason why I love Akagami no Shirayuki-hime is because of the main characters' love story; how they are very supportive and caring of one another, and expressing it not through words but through their actions. They are not your typical lovey-dovey annoying couple always clinging onto their partner, but going through each episodes, you will feel how much they like and admire each other; which made me spazz, go crazy and daydream a lot!
The main guy, Zen, is definitely the perfect guy for Shirayuki. They balance each other's personality where they are different yet similar in nature. Their interactions are something that you expect to happen in real life which makes them relatable, and you end up wishing it happens to you too. I honestly think I'm saying all these because I love everything (as in everything) about Zen's character and he just takes me back to my delusional land where the "perfect guy" lives. He's very charming!
The supporting characters are not dull and actually have their own stories, where some of them will even make you curious. Their roles are not forgettable unlike in other anime where other characters are only given screen time whenever the creator needs to build the main characters' story/personality/overall character (like creating drama between the supporting and the protagonist or antagonist just so there is a character development). This is not the case in this anime which I was really happy about because I get to enjoy watching them and I sometimes even anticipate when they will pop up next and what they will do next for themselves, rather than for Zen or Shirayuki.
My comment may sound like this anime is like your typical shoujo fantasy anime. Although it may be the case, it is still a little bit different and enjoyable, and despite some scenes being predictable, you are still anticipating for something to happen. It is kind of exciting and you keep wanting more of Zen and Shirayuki's interaction. You will definitely ship them in the end, just like how I did at the end of episode one! The opening and ending music plus the music video also made me want to keep watching the show because it shows a lot of Zen and Shirayuki together!
I definitely love and truly enjoyed this show and can't wait to start season 2 (when I am less busy with uni). Season 1 ended quite well and was not a cliffhanger so I did not have the urge to start season 2 straightaway. If you have time and looking for something light in feeling to watch, check this 12 episode shoujo fantasy anime out. Happy watching!
